The CEVET project responds to the ongoing challenges faced by individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) in accessing and sustaining meaningful employment in the open labour market. Despite Article 27 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD), which upholds the right of persons with disabilities to work on an equal basis with others, many individuals with ID continue to face significant barriers.
Our project is grounded in the belief that individuals with ID have valuable contributions to make to the workforce and to society. However, systemic issues such as limited access to tailored training, inadequate support services and persistent discrimination continue to restrict their employment opportunities.Through the development of innovative VET resources and support tools, the CEVET project will equip educators, trainers and employment support professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to implement customised employment (CE) approaches effectively. In doing so, we aim to foster inclusive training environments and open new pathways to sustainable employment for individuals with ID.
CEVET aims to enhance vocational education and training (VET) systems by embedding CE methodologies into the work of employment specialists across Europe. Customised Employment focuses on creating individually tailored job roles that align with a person’s strengths, interests and support needs, while also meeting the needs of employers. We wish to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to access meaningful employment through personalised, strengths-based job development and ongoing support.
Working with six organisations across five EU countries – Norway, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Ireland – the CEVET project team brings together expertise in VET, disability inclusion, career development and social enterprise. Our aim is to build and create innovative tools, training and frameworks that will help VET professionals better support people with ID to thrive in the open labour market.
The CEVET Customised Employment Transnational Mapping Report includes real-world cases across partner countries. Using the CE Fidelity Framework, this report assesses the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of CE implementation across Europe. The findings aim to inform recommendations for practitioners and policymakers within this sector.
The CEVET Handbook for Job Developers is designed to support VET professionals and employment specialists in implementing the Customised Employment model. The handbook presents clear, step-by-step guidance to the CE process, including tools for discovery, job development, employer engagement and ongoing support. It also includes templates, checklists and real-world case studies helping professionals apply the model confidently and consistently.
The CEVET Curriculum is a comprehensive training programme that aims to build the skills, knowledge and confidence of employment support professionals working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. The curriculum is modular and flexible, incorporating theory, practical exercises, multimedia content and assessment tools to support and enhance their continuous professional development.
